DiGRA ISRAEL Chapter Goals and Functions

DiGRA ISRAEL promotes the DIGRA's vision and goals to encourage high-level digital games relevant research and to promote the dissemination of work by its members through research, development, commercial, practitioner and policy communities, networks and organizations. This it seeks to achieve by running the DiGRA ISRAEL website as a focal point for sharing insights on digital games and virtual worlds research and development, and by:

  • Initiating & participating in national/ international events on digital games and virtual worlds.
  • Holding chapter meetings
  • Developing the DiGRA ISRAEL Professionals Network in LinkedIn
  • Publishing the DiGRA ISRAEL Newsletter
  • Running a Blog
  • Conducting research on digital games and virtual world.
  • Setting the stage for the formation of hd-hock alliances based on projects goals

DiGRA ISRAEL sees these as vital steps in encouraging dialogues between the Israeli gaming industry and other relevant agencies and encouraging the quality of digital games knowledge, research and collaboration in all sectors.
This website is a starting point to support relevant themes and discuss among the various interested parties (via forums) the issues.

About

DiGRA ISRAEL is an Israeli association of academics and practitioners whose work focuses on digital games, virtual worlds and associated activities. Focus technologies of the association include (but are not restricted to) existing types of computer and video games, online games, virtual worlds, arcade games, games on handheld and mobile devices and games delivered through digital television or other forms of interactive technologies.
DiGRA ISRAEL was founded on August 2006. On February 19th 2007 Dr. Hanan Gazit, the Israeli DiGRA (Digital Games Research Association) Chapter officially announced DiGRA ISRAEL on the "Online Games are a Serious Matter" special session, at the ISOC-IL 2007 national convention held in Avenue Convention Center, Airport City, Lod, Israel.

DiGRA ISRAEL's vision and goals presented during the opening session were followed by presentations of leading speakers from both the academia and the Israeli games development industry, covering different aspects of digital games and virtual worlds. The discussion held in the end of the session stresses the need for the creation of a focal point which would foster the discussion and the collaboration between the academia and the industry, and other relevant parties interested in digital games and virtual worlds research and development, as well as exploring its potential as instruction, learning & business tools.
The next milestone was the airborne of DiGRA ISRAEL Website, new logo and the DiGRA ISRAEL's future activites plan, which were officially approved and endorsed by the DIGRA Board and President, Prof. Tanya Krzywinska, during the Board's February 2008 meeting.
